Time to get started
I have always heard the many different inspirational phrases regarding success. Practice makes perfect. Luck is preparation meets opportunity. Success is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration. They all basically say the same thing. If you want to be successful at something, then you must do it, do it often, do it everyday and do it until you become so immersed in it, you can do it on command without thought. Much like basketball players shooting jump shots for hours on end or actors studying the nuances of human behavior, I want to be able to be one with a great command of my chosen skill. It must be done constantly before you are ever good at it.
So, with that thought, I want to start my career today. I want to be a writer. I would like to write about a multitude of different items; entertaining, funny, poignant, meaningful things that say something or bring a smile or guffaw. The ability to convey thoughts and emotions in words would be something joyous for me. Plus the worlds that it would open to me would be endless. No, I am not speaking of some mythical rock and roll lifestyle world of a super successful writer, (which, by the way, what is the meaning of success? What actually defines success? Is it monetary, or peer recognition, or popularity? But I am getting ahead of myself, and that is a discussion for another day.) But the worlds enclosed within books and learning and with the stories and lives of people. Those would be endless entertainment for my mind. And I certainly do not want to write about the famous, those people get enough of their own press, but about, and I love this line, the extraordinary lives of ordinary people. And it’s true, those are the best stories. But, I am beginning to lean toward my worst habit, the ever present tangent.
So, to get practice, to get something out there, to become published, even if it is merely a blog on the internet, I am starting today. I am not sure what direction I would like to go, but there are so many different subjects and things you can write about, I am sure with enough musings, something will stick. So, in the words of one of the best writers I have ever read, it's a magical world, let's go exploring.
